Journey of a Doer: Struggle to Hustle, Work to Meditation
We all face struggles, but whether you love or hate your struggle makes the difference between achievers and others. In life, everyone is both an achiever and a loser. Regardless of whether someone is considered the GOAT or not, nobody gets everything. The famous tennis player Roger Federer once said in his speech that only 54% of his correct shots had made him who he is today.
The simple lesson is that we don’t need to be 100% correct to master our work. The key is that diligently doing your work is its reward. Simply being able to do what you do is a reward in itself. After COVID-19, people have come to realize that even breathing is a reward.
Doers are engrossed in the process; their struggle transforms into hustle. They don’t rely on inspirational or motivational quotes to propel them forward. They treat their work as a reward as if nothing else in the world matters.
If this resonates with your mindset, my friend, you are on the brink of achieving something significant, even if you don’t realize it yet. The potential within every human being is vast and immeasurable. It’s only a matter of time before we recognize it.
People around might not understand the dilemma of not following societal norms. They may not comprehend why living in uncertainty excites you. The best part is, you don’t need to explain it to them.
“Bees don’t waste their time explaining to flies that honey is better than shit”
Mind the Real Enemy and Friend
Many great achievers have failed many times in their lives before achieving greatness. The average mind dreams of living for a hundred years. For achievers, it is the present moment that matters. It doesn’t matter what happened in the past, and it doesn’t matter what will happen in the future.
No mind is capable of not thinking about the past or future, but the duration of its impact is what creates the difference between achievers and others. How long a different thought affects your present work is what makes the difference.
Even great achievers have distractions in their lives, face problems, and think about other things while working on their skills. The point that differentiates them from others is that they don’t allow their distractions and thoughts to consume their time.
There’s a well-known story about a man who had two dogs that he used for dog fights. Whenever someone asked him which dog would win, he always guessed correctly. When they asked him how he knew, he simply replied, “The one I feed the most.”
The thoughts you emphasize will determine the course of your life. Meditation is one way to help you focus more. Many people have the wrong notion that sitting quietly with closed eyes is meditation. This is not true. If a person is sitting with closed eyes but has different thoughts without a method to bring their attention back, they are not meditating.
While working, people in the zone or flow experience a state of zen where the mind doesn’t control them. Thoughts don’t distract them at that time. Giving any situation your 100% attention is real meditation.
