Difference Being Joyful and Miserable
In the deserted street of Rome, some years ago, a project of making the world’s tallest cathedral was going on. A man was passing by some workers. He noticed two workers. Both of them broke the stones.
The sound of a hammer pounding on the stone Clack-clack-clack…. can be listened from a distance. The man saw one person enjoying his work, the other one looking as miserable as the broken stone.
Out of curiosity he went to the first person and asked him, what he was doing. Me? The first person replied. ‘Oh, I am helping build the world’s tallest cathedral!’
Walking a little farther, the second person was working. He asked him the same question, what are you doing? The person replied, ‘Are You Blind? Can’t You See, I am Breaking the Stones’.
Different replies from both the people clarify the mystery of why one person was joyful and the second was miserable. It doesn’t matter in which position you are, what portfolio you hold.
If you have the mentality like the second person then you will be miserable every time.
We always hear do what you love. But nobody has ever explained, how? Why people never explained ‘how’ is only because they don’t know. They just quote or re-phrase something they have listened to or read.
We must understand, that we all are mortal. The time, we have to spend on the earth is very limited. Instead of just doing what you love, we should love what we do. Then everything will be joyful.
Very few people know and understand what they want to do in their life or which field they want to choose. The majority of people don’t understand it. It doesn’t mean that the majority of people should be miserable.
It is all about what is inside. There are two parallel worlds that exist. One is the external world and the second is the internal world. What happens in the external world is not in our control. But what happens in the internal world can be controlled.
If you are aligned to the external world for your joy then it will always be accidental. Therefore, to smile and laugh you don’t need a big bank balance or a big position. What is needed is some friends and some talk.
What makes the difference is, what you think about yourself and your work?
“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well” Martin Luther King Jr.
