Fake Gaming Websites Scams: 3 Online Scammers Held in New Delhi
New Delhi: According to the Delhi Police, three people have been detained for allegedly defrauding online gamers across the nation in fake gaming websites scams.
They claimed that Shriyansh Chandrakar, Ayush Dewangan, and Yash Ganvir ran their businesses out of Bengaluru, Raipur, and Chhattisgarh.
According to the police, fake gaming websites scammers were tricking people into betting on fictitious gaming websites on games like Teen Patti, snooker, casino, cricket, and poker.
Small payments were made to the victims, in the beginning, to gain their trust and demonstrate the legitimacy of the gaming website.
According to police, the three men were nabbed after a Sub Inspector from the Cyber Police Station pretended to be a Swiggy delivery boy and went to the location where they operated fake gaming websites scam to deliver food.
Upon receiving a complaint from an employee of a renowned IT company who claimed to have lost Rs 1,49,000 playing the same games, police opened an investigation into the situation.
Modus Operandi Fake Gaming Websites Scams
Police claim that the gang members pretended to be customer service representatives for the fake websites while using several forged SIM cards and mobile phones to make calls.
To avoid capture, the suspects frequently moved from Bengaluru, Karnataka, to Raipur, Chhattisgarh, and Delhi.
Sagar Singh Kalsi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), explained the scam by saying that the victims were asked to register on fake gaming websites scams (fake gaming websites) and deposit funds in order to buy coins for the games.
According to Kalsi, “the defrauded amount by fake gaming websites scams was transferred to accounts of various banks.”
When the police examined the suspects’ call logs, they discovered that their locations were constantly shifting between Bengaluru and Delhi and the Chhattisgarh cities of Durg, Bhilai, and Raipur.
The officer claimed that although police attempted to apprehend the gang members in Chhattisgarh by mounting a technical surveillance, they were unsuccessful because the gang members were using fake SIM cards.
Police eventually discovered that the suspects had relocated from Chhattisgarh to Delhi, where they were apprehended.
When questioned by police, Shriyansh Chandrakar admitted that he had travelled to Bengaluru to enrol in a hotel management programme at IHM, Bengaluru, where he had met Raj.
Raj revealed to him that he operated a number of fake gaming websites scam where he deceived people and made quick cash.
Attracted by the opportunity, Chandrakar joined Raj and began working from his Chhattisgarh hometown along with his friend Ayush Dewangan and Yash Ganvir.
“Raj used to sell the accused fake online gaming websites that were illegal. These websites offer a variety of games for which victims were required to pay a registration fee.
Small amounts were paid back to the complainant in order to win their trust and persuade them to participate in more games. When playing the games, money keeps building up in the complainant’s virtual e-wallets, but never gets returned to him or her “said Kalsi.
